GARY

I went to the hospital today to visit my old boss Gary. Not yet 50 he had suffered a heart attack and had triple bypass surgery two days ago. As I sat by his side at the Intensive Care Unit, wearing a hospital gown and gloves I reflected on this man's life. In his 25 year career as the Head trader of Fahnestock Gary destroyed people's lives, he was mean and petty. He destroyed companies and reduced grown men to tears. He wielded tremendous power and respected no one BUT he also helped some people, especially me. He gave me a great job which moved me to New York City in which I am still reaping the benefits. We had not seen each other in almost 4 years but he was happy to see me and as he drifted in and out of conciousness we seemed to have a good conversation touching on family and the future. No one was there by his bedside except his mother and me. I hope he will recover and change his life around. Gary has many millions of dollars but not one penny could help him today in the hospital bed, hooked up to machines with a 10 inch hole in his chest.
If all the people who Gary treated badly could have seen him today, suffering and possibly near death I would hope that they could forgive him. God bless him.
